RECENSIONE/REVIEW - Antonio Giorgio's "GOLDEN METAL - The Quest for the Inner Glory" (2017- Andromeda Relix) https://progressivamenteblog.blogspot.com/2017/10/antonio-giorgio-golden-metal-quest-of.html Cantante e compositore, Antonio Giorgio è il mastermind dietro questo nuovo progetto targato Andromeda Relix, un lavoro fieramente epico, intriso di power metal e hard rock, con qualche frangente lievemente progressivo. Golden Metal – The Quest of Inner Glory è un lavoro per sua stessa natura magniloquente, che arriva dopo svariati demo e dischi autoprodotti e che pare prevalentemente indirizzato ai fan di Virgin Steele, Omen e Manilla Road, un album realizzato in due anni insieme a membri della power band Fogalord, dei sinfonici Astral Domine (ora Veil of conspiracy) e di due band di hard rock melodico come Bluerose e Thunderproject (Stefano Paolini, Enrico Di Marco e Luca Gagnoni alle chitarre, Giuseppe Lombardo al basso, Nicolò Bernini alla batteria, Mattia Bulgarelli alle tastiere, Dany All alle tastiere e alla voce e infine Riccardo Scaramelli presente solo nella bella cover di Alone Again dei Dokken). Con queste premesse il disco è un chiaro omaggio al metal più classico, quello orgoglioso e nobilmente vintage nella forma e nella costruzione, nelle atmosfere epicamente gotiche e valorose di un concept allegorico in cui l’irpino ha messo tutto se stesso, con i pro e i contro di un genere ben radicato nella storia. Il songwriting è quindi figlio di questa passione verace, di ascolti che probabilmente accompagnano da sempre l’autore ed è canalizzato all’interno di un percorso, prendere o lasciare, definito, ma che forse potrebbe non essere definitivo vista l’abbondanza di carne messa sul fuoco. Peccato per alcuni momenti in cui la voce emerge meno di quanto dovrebbe, soprattutto nei brani più heavy dove una potenza vocale più marcata e profonda avrebbe giovato senz’altro, aspetto che non ho riscontrato nelle parti più rallentate come l’ottima e doomy The reaper. Pur trovando il platter altalenante nel suo incedere devo dire che Antonio sceglie saggiamente di non esagerare mai con acuti vocali fastidiosi o sopra le righe, preferendo una meticolosità d’insieme che porta alla creazione di brani in cui l’aspetto melodico ha una certa rilevanza, come nel caso di Lost & Lonely o Luminous demons, esempi piacevoli della commistione tra heavy e power metal. Meno interessanti a mio giudizio la canonica title track iniziale e Forever we are one, più anonima rispetto alle altre, mentre maggiormente penetranti sono la gloriosa suite Beyond heaven and hell divisa in tre capitoli e il buon finale di Et in Arcadia Ego suite con parecchie idee al suo interno. The Quest of Inner Glory risulta quindi un disco gradevole, indirizzato probabilmente solo verso un certo tipo di pubblico che già apprezza queste sonorità, in attesa di scoprire se l’artista irpino ha intenzione di proseguire su questa strada anche in futuro o instillare il suo credo musicale con altri elementi.

Singer and songwriter Antonio Giorgio is the mastermind behind this new project from Andromeda Relix, a fiercely epic work steeped in power metal and hard rock, with a few slightly progressive touches. Golden Metal – The Quest of Inner Glory is a magniloquent work by its very nature, arriving after several demos and self-produced albums and seemingly aimed primarily at fans of Virgin Steele, Omen, and Manilla Road. The album was made over two years with members of the power band Fogalord, the symphonic Astral Domine (now Veil of Conspiracy), and two melodic hard rock bands, Bluerose and Thunderproject (Stefano Paolini, Enrico Di Marco, and Luca Gagnoni on guitar, Giuseppe Lombardo on bass, Nicolò Bernini on drums, Mattia Bulgarelli on keyboards, Dany All on keyboards and vocals, and finally Riccardo Scaramelli, featured only on the beautiful cover of Dokken's "Alone Again"). With this premise, the album is a clear homage to classic metal, the kind proud and nobly vintage in form and construction, embodied in the epically gothic and courageous atmospheres of an allegorical concept into which the Irpinia native has poured his all, with the pros and cons of a genre deeply rooted in history. The songwriting is therefore the product of this genuine passion, of listening experiences that have likely always accompanied the author, and is channeled within a defined path—take it or leave it—but which perhaps might not be definitive given the abundance of material on offer. It's a shame that in some moments the vocals emerge less than they should, especially in the heavier tracks where a more pronounced and profound vocal power would have certainly benefited, something I didn't notice in the slower sections like the excellent and doomy "The Reaper." While I find the album uneven in its progression, I must say that Antonio wisely chooses not to overdo it with annoying or over-the-top vocal high notes, preferring a meticulous overall approach that leads to the creation of songs in which the melodic aspect plays a certain role, as in the case of "Lost & Lonely" and "Luminous Demons," pleasant examples of the mix between heavy and power metal. Less interesting in my opinion are the canonical opening title track and "Forever We Are One," more anonymous than the others, while more penetrating are the glorious suite "Beyond Heaven and Hell," divided into three chapters, and the strong finale of "Et in Arcadia Ego," a suite with several ideas within. The Quest of Inner Glory is therefore a pleasant album, probably aimed only at a certain type of audience who already appreciates this sound, while we wait to see if the Irpinia artist intends to continue along this path in the future or instill his musical credo with other elements.
